Sturgis South Dakota 12 Day Tour | ||||||

For a week in August literally hundreds of thousands of riders descend on the tiny town of Sturgis, South Dakota. This year, you can be a part of it! This truly amazing motorcycle holiday of twelve days of riding, includes Yellowstone National Park and a three night stay at the largest Motorcycle Event on earth, Sturgis Bike Week. After Sturgis, we'll continue through the Badlands and Rocky Mountain National Park to Denver. We leave Las Vegas on August 2, on this motorbike tour we'll be taking the "Scenic Route" to Sturgis. We'll cross a spectacular corner of Arizona through the Virgin River Gorge, and spend our first night in Springdale UT, gateway to Zion National Park. Zion meant resting place to the Mormon settlers in the area. We ride between sheer cliffs of Navajo Sandstone rising 2,000 ft. above the green valley floor. Our path continues north through the back roads of Utah climbing to over 10,000 feet elevation in the Mt. Nebo wilderness. We'll follow Provo Canyon around the Salt Lake City metro area and into Wyoming, then on to Jackson. The next day takes us into Grand Teton and Yellowstone National Parks. The Yellowstone miles are not demanding, and there will be plenty of time to explore the sights, sounds and smells of of of the most unique (and at the same time amazingly diverse) regions on the planet. Wildlife is plentiful, and we almost always see big game such as moose, buffalo, elk, deer, bear and wolf. Leaving Yellowstone you'll have the unique thrill of riding the Beartooth Highway, which Charles Kuralt called the "most beautiful road in America". It's near the top of every motorcyclist's list of "must-rides". You'll see a real western rodeo in Cody, and then we're off through the Bighorn Mountains on the way to Bike Week.
Our final leg of this spectacular motorbike holiday to Bike Week, takes us through the Big Horn Mountains and an optional side trip to Devil's Tower. When we get to Sturgis, you'll see bikes (and PEOPLE!) of every make, model, size, shape, age, color and variety. Everyone is there to relax and have fun, and although the crowds are huge, folks are generally well-behaved. Indeed, "people-watching" at Sturgis is as much fun as the riding! Even if you never go back again, it's worth going just once to say that "I was there". All that being said, unless you are a true Sturgis die-hard, a few days at Bike Week is enough for most people, and then it's time to put the masses behind and RIDE. Fortunately, within less than a day's travel of Sturgis the crowds thin out and there's nothing but you, your bike, and the wide open roads of the western US. So after three nights amid the excitement of Bike Week, we're back on our motorcycles and hitting the road through the Badlands and Rocky Mountain National Park, navigating the highest paved road in North America on the way to Denver. All in all, you'll see more of the American West than you dreamed possible AND be a part of the largest gathering of motorcycles/motorbikes on earth. Spend twelve days with us this summer and you'll see what we mean! Besides the great roads and spectacular scenery on all our USA & Canada Motorcycle Tours, one of the most critical components is our lodging selections. All lodging is included, from the evening before our departure through the night after we return to our final stop. This is Enhanced Motorcycle Travel, the Great American way we stay at only the finest available inns, bed and breakfasts, and resorts. Words like "first-class" , "luxury" and such are subjective, and can mean a lot of things to a lot of people, so we stay away from 'em. The "Star" or "Diamond" systems don't really work for us either, since we get to so many out-of-the-way places, and those guidebook writers (and the flocks of tourists that follow them) just haven't made it there yet. We just go for the best available, with a few conditions... We stay at places where our group is not considered "small", so we can be the primary focus of the proprietor and staff. That generally means you'll stay at a small local inn, Bed & Breakfast, ranch, lodge, or even private cabins. Sometimes we're the only ones there. The place needs to have character, and some of the most interesting characters you'll meet on a tour (in addition to your group of course!) may be our hosts for one or more evenings. Nonetheless, comfort is never sacrificed, and you'll find amenities such as antique furnishings, hot tubs, fireplaces, as well as nearby activities and attractions such as golf, horseback riding, fishing, hiking, and yes, even shopping. Suffice it to say
your lodging experience will be "Comfortably Unique". Each day that we are traveling starts with breakfast as a group. It's often at our place of lodging and varies from a generous continental to a cooked-to-order feast. Sometimes we ride for an hour or so if there's a "destination" breakfast in the area. Before leaving each morning we'll discuss the days ride, attractions, alternative routes. In any case, don't worry about starting out on an empty stomach. Lunch is on your own. We'll usually stop where there are several choices and you can have what you like. We like places that are just the right combination of atmosphere, good food, and the prompt service needed to help us keep moving. We've found that people like choices when it comes to dinner. Some days we'll have adinner as a group, but we also give you opportunities to have dinner where your want and when you want. We typically enjoy local favorites and specialties, always prepared fresh and always plentiful. Sometimes we order from menus - choose anything at all - but on occasion we have a "personal chef" who is eager to exercise his or her culinary creativity. The best meals, like the best rides, are often "planned spontaneity"! This tour is accompanied by a support vehicle. The SV carries luggage for the group and has plenty of room for clothing and riding gear and even space for some larger extras like fishing poles and golf clubs. We're saying "two pieces per person" just so no one gets carried away. When you arrive for your tour, you'll receive your Daily Itinerary Packet. In it you'll find detailed information about your tour, including maps and directions for each day's travels... the route the group leader will be following as well as alternates. There will be a list of attractions, interesting facts about places and people along the way.. You'll also have emergency contact information and telephone numbers for our each night's lodging, should you be delayed.
